I have worked in Comprehensive and selective State and Independent schools for over 25 years as a classroom teacher, head of department and Special Needs Co-ordinator.
I have a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in maths teaching (Birmingham University) and an Open University certificate in 'Developing Mathematical Thinking' focussing on the most effective ways of teaching maths.
My approach is to re-establish basics, spending as much time as necessary on each stage, before progressing to the next. I like to use real life examples and to encourage understanding and problem solving. I strongly believe that anyone can 'do maths'
I have prepared students for exams from 11+ to Foundation GCSE. I specialise in helping students who are not confident in the subject or who have missed out part of their education.
